Ginger, a very special plant ...

Root with almost "miraculous" properties, ginger - whose scientific name is Zingiber officinalis - belongs to the family of herbaceous plants called Zingiberacee, Angiosperm plants which include about 52 genera and more than 1300 species. Many of these plants - including Cardamom, which is widely used in the kitchen and beyond - have interesting properties not only in terms of cooking but also from an officinal and medicinal point of view.

The Zingiberaceae to which ginger belongs and refers also have a herbaceous habit: they are mostly irregular plants, with rhizome and underground and branched stem. To this type of plants belong several species with very interesting properties, which we will see below.

 

In nature, it is found mostly in the tropical and subtropical areas of the Far East, and although its uses today are widely known in the kitchen, there are different cultures and oriental populations and not only that have made use of this root for largely medical reasons, such as treatment and cure for diarrhea, nausea, and other problems. 

What we want to emphasize is its effectiveness and ginger benefits in Veterinary Medicine.

Ginger has numerous beneficial effects on small animals and can be administered with due care.

Ginger has many properties, the most important of which are:

• Carminative (Medicament that promotes the expulsion of gases from the stomach and intestines)

• Fights motion sickness (very suitable for short car trips)

• Regulates blood flow

• Antioxidant

• Anti-inflammatory

In pregnant subjects since it increases uterine contractions

Bile secretion increases

Lowers the amount of sugar in the blood (not suitable for people with diabetes)
